4th of July

The fourth of July was celebrated at Veterans Park on Terrace Street. We had flags, food, and fireworks. We thank all those who helped at the concession building and those who participated in the flag ceremony.  A special thanks to Steve Yardley Got the canteen ready for the event and served once again as our chief cook. Thank You Steve!

Ladies Auxiliary Quilting

Our Ladies Auxiliary made 20 quilts which they distributed to veterans who had reached the age of 100 years or more. They went out to hospitals and homes to present the gift of quilts to our honored veterans.

From left to right: Mrs.Reshkus, Connie Lindloff (Ladies Auxiliary President), Vittoria Reshkus (this year’s Poppy Princess), and Leanne Grair (Ladies Auxiliary).

Smelt Fry

We are again holding our Friday night Smelt fry the fourth Friday of each month. Due to the controversy on the internet regarding tilapia, some asked us to review our menu.  We have changed the menu and are replacing the baked Tilapia with baked Cod. Because of the higher cost of cod, we need to increase the price of the dinner to $9.50 for adults and 5.00 for children under 12. Our price increase ensures we will be able to continue our support to the Veterans homes. The doors open at 5:00 pm, serving will begin at 5:30 and run until 7:00 pm. All profits from the smelt fry will be donated to Wisconsin Veteran’s Hospitals.

Dates of the event are as follows:

September 28, 2018

October 26, 2018

November 16, 2018 (one week earlier due to Thanksgiving)

Membership Night

This year’s membership night was held on August 27. We had a great dinner of hamburgers, brats, hotdogs, and corn on the cob. A special thanks to Larry Malsch and those who helped him cook the meal.

We extended an invitation to the boys who our post had sponsored to attend the 2018 Badger Boys State conferences. We had five of the eight boys who attended the conference at our dinner. The boys had a power point presentation as to what they did and talked about their experiences at the conferences.  The boys expressed their gratitude to the legion for sponsoring them at the Badger Boys State convention. Pictured below from left to right are: Trent Hernandez, Sam Grover, Aidan Schowalter, Badger Boys State Conference Chairman veteran Bob Penniman, Luca Lopez, and Jack Wright

We have entered our 2018/2019 membership year. As of the end of August we have 120 paid members. If you have not yet paid you dues, you can renew your membership either on line (legion.org) or pay by check to our Post membership chairman, Larry Malsch. Halloween 2018

We will once again be providing a Halloween haunted house on Halloween night for the community. We will be looking for volunteers to help in the haunted house on Halloween night, Wednesday, October 31.  The haunted house will be open from 6:30 pm until the last of the people walk through, this usually takes about 2 hours.  Volunteers will need to be at the haunted house no later than 6:00 PM.  Our Ladies Auxiliary will be handing out candy to all children who come through the haunted house.  Contact Len Hahn at lennyhahn@gmail.com or 847-910-2282 if you, or you know of anyone else who would like to help.

Carry-outs will be delivered at 11:30 and the sit-down dinners will begin at 12:00 noon. We need volunteers to make this community event a success.
